When adding financial data for a client on their profile page, the companies they have worked for can only be selected from a saved companies list. The saved companies list is available to be selected across all clients in your account.
Adding a company to your Companies list
To add a company to the Companies list, first select the Companies button under the Apps menu.
2. On the Companies page, select the Add (+) button above the companies table.
3. When adding a company, first select if the company is Public or Private using the Private? toggle at the top of the Add company modal.
The form includes the following fields:
Private? — Toggle to indicate whether the company is private or publicly traded.
Symbol — The stock ticker symbol. Required for public companies; auto-generated for private companies (see below).
Lookup Company — Button that appears for public companies. Searches for the company by symbol and auto-fills Name and Share Price.
Name — The company name. Required. Auto-filled for public companies after lookup.
Share Price — Current share price. Required. Auto-filled for public companies after lookup.
In Carta — Toggle indicating if the company uses Carta for equity management.
Allow 10b5-1 — Toggle indicating if the company allows 10b5-1 trading plans.
Equity Platform — Dropdown to select the primary brokerage platform (e.g., Morgan Stanley, E*Trade, Fidelity, Schwab, etc.).
Equity Platform 2 — Dropdown for a secondary brokerage platform, if applicable.
Transfer Agent — Dropdown to select the company's transfer agent (Computer Share, Continental, or None).
QSBS Company? — Toggle indicating if the company qualifies for Qualified Small Business Stock treatment. When enabled, a QSBS Date field appears.
Symbol, Name, and Share Price are required fields. Once the required fields are filled in, select the Submit button to save the company.
Private: If the company is Private, enter the Name and Share Price for the company (these are required fields). When a name is entered, a Symbol is created automatically using "PR" followed by the first 3 letters of the company name (e.g., "Acme Corp" becomes "PRACM"). If there is a conflict, Gemifi will try alternative combinations automatically.
Public: If the company is Public, enter the Symbol of the company. When the symbol is entered, select the Lookup Company button that appears below the Symbol field. If the symbol is accurate, the Name and Share Price will be populated automatically. The name and share price can't be edited for a public company.
4. Once a company is saved, it is then added to the saved companies list and can be selected directly from a client's profile page.
5. To edit a saved company, select the pencil icon for that company. Additionally, if a Private company becomes Public, select the currency exchange icon (circular arrows) next to that company to open the conversion dialog. Enter the public ticker symbol, look up the company, and submit to convert it from private to public.
Adding trading windows for a company
When a new company is added, it's important to add the trading windows for that company. By default, the trading windows are not included for Public companies. For Private companies, you can also add a trading window for any secondary sales to allow for a window of opportunity to make those sales. A trading plan will not generate if Public companies are involved, until trading windows are added.
1. After adding a company, select it from the Companies list, to be taken to that company's profile page.
2. Under the Trading Windows section, select the Generate Trading Windows icon (the chart/graph icon with the tooltip "Generate trading windows") to add multiple trading windows at once. Select the Start and End dates for the windows. Gemifi suggests adding a timeline of 10 years where this action will generate trading windows for the next 10 years.
3. Once the trading windows are created, it's important to confirm the trading windows as Gemifi provides estimates for the windows included. If any edits are needed for a trading window, select the pencil icon next to that specific trading window to make the necessary edits.
4. Once the trading windows are added for a Public company, you'll then be able to create a Trading Plan using that company for a client.
Deleting a company from the Companies list
To delete a company from the Companies list, select the pencil icon for that company.
On the Edit company modal, select the trash icon in the top right corner. (Once deleted, this company will be removed from all client views)
