Maintain a client's employment and state residency history

Dated history helps explain where a client lived and when they worked for an equity issuer. Open the client → Profile → Tax.

Add state residency

  1. Find State Tax Residency History.

  2. Select Add residency.

  3. Choose the state and start date.

  4. Use Current residency for an ongoing period. For a completed period, supply the end date required by the form.

  5. Select Add residency and check the resulting row.

Add state residency dialog

Use the client's actual dates. Review the sequence for accidental overlaps or gaps. A residence record is different from a future rate assumption in the tax profile.

Add employment

  1. Find Company Employment History.

  2. Select Add employment.

  3. Choose the company and employment start date.

  4. Indicate whether this is current employment; enter the end date for a completed period.

  5. Select Add employment and review the saved row.

Company employment dialog

Ending employment affects projections: the platform warns that it pauses unconfirmed contractual vests and related withholding after the end date. Confirmed activity and frozen plans remain unchanged. Review downstream results after correcting an end date.

If the employer is missing, add the company first.

Review the result

Check upcoming equity activity, the Tax tab, and the State Tax Report. State filing and allocation conclusions require a review of the client's facts; a residency row by itself does not determine every filing obligation.
